Catharose de Petri nasceu em 1902 em Roterdã, como Henriette Stok-Huyser. Desde muito jovem estava consciente de ter uma missão espiritual importante. Juntamente com o senhor Jan van Rijckenborgh, ela dedicou toda a sua vida à construção da Escola Espiritual da Rosacruz Áurea.
Como parte desse trabalho eles escreveram livros, em conjunto e individualmente. Explicaram para o homem de nosso tempo antigos textos herméticos e gnósticos, como o Corpus Hermeticum e os manifestos rosa-cruzes clássicos. Ambos os autores, em seus ensinamentos filosóficos, não deixavam de consultar um ao outro, e seu trabalho era considerado como o resultado de uma única e harmoniosa colaboração. Dessa forma, A Gnosis Chinesa, escrita por ambos, é um brilhante comentário do antigo texto hermético chinês: o Tao Te King, adaptado para nosso tempo.
