O beijo e' uma demonstracao de afeto, um gesto simbolico de afirmacao de vinculo com o outro.
O acesso ao corpo do outro em uma relacao amorosa nao suscinta nenhuma reticencia, quer se trate do sexo quer do rosto. O erotismo ou a ternura pouco medem as caricias, os beijos na boca, na face, no pescoco ou nas outras partes do corpo. O prazer partilhado na oralidade se estende no gozo nao apenas do rosto, mas de todas as partes em que os labios pousam, pois no desejo do outro tudo e' desejo tudo e' jubilo. "Teus labios sao favo escorrendo, o' noiva minha, tens leite e mel sob a lingua" diz o amado do Cantico dos Canticos(4,11), respondendo ao chamado da bem-amada: "Que me beije com beijos de sua boca! Teus amores sao melhores que o vinho" (1,2). O beijo na boca que comprime os labios e mistura os corpos, e' o ato dos amantes, e nao e' visto em nenhum outro dos rituais da vida cotidiana. "Cada beijo chama um outro beijo", diz Proust. "Ah! Nos primeiros tempos do amor, nascem tao naturalmente os beijos! Acorrem, apertando-se uns contra os outros; e ter-se-ia tanta dificuldade em contar os beijos dados numa hora como as flores de um campo no mes de maio" Albert Cohen deixa a pena correr com a mesma emocao:
