"Existe um poema da época medieval que fala de um jardim onde se encontrava uma rosa. Os muros do jardim eram ornados de ricas esculturas, cujas figuras simbólicas representavam: ódio, traição, baixeza, cobiça, inveja, tristeza, velhice, hipocrisia e pobreza; em suma, todas as misérias e pecados do homem dialético.
Aquele que quiser possuir a rosa, assim dizia o poema, terá que irromper através de toda essa miséria e pecados. Quem conseguir isso, entrará na posse da rosa como a mais bela recompensa de amor.
Horas seguidas poderíamos entreternos com lendas e contos sobre a rosa e a cruz; tencionamos porém dirigir a vossa atenção para a rosa e a cruz do Paraiso de Dante, em sua Divina Comédia.
No Paraiso de Dante, vemos a Rosacruz tal como a Escola Espiritual moderna nos quer mostrar. Dante fala dessa poderosa Rosacruz como magnificente mar de Luz:
'Se naquele inferior degrau da escada,
é tão viva a claridade,
qual não será no cimo o fulgor da excelsa Rosa!
Por igual ela resplandecia, de perto ou de longe;
pois ali onde Deus governa diretamente,
não vige nenhuma lei da natureza.
Para o centro áureo da Rosa eterna,
que recendia por suas muitas e dilatadas pétalas,
Beatriz me atraía ...'
